Owen Adams, Founder and CEO of Phoenix Rising Recovery & Counseling, knows firsthand the struggles of addiction, loss, and redemption. His journey is one of resilience, transformation, and a relentless passion for helping others overcome the very demons that once haunted him.
Born to a single mother battling addiction, Owen spent much of his childhood in foster care before she regained custody. But the scars of instability ran deep. By his teenage years, alcohol had become a dangerous coping mechanism—a pattern that followed him into adulthood.
After high school, Owen joined the U.S. Army, where alcohol was never hard to find. What started as casual drinking escalated into full-blown addiction after his service. He married, had two children, and tried to build a stable life, but alcohol continued to take its toll. The consequences were devastating—he lost his job, his marriage, and in 2006, his mother. Her passing sent him into a downward spiral of reckless behavior, drinking and driving, and self-destruction.
A second marriage and a new career as a medic brought hope, but addiction still loomed large. More job losses. More broken relationships. More nights drowning in alcohol. It wasn’t until Owen was sentenced to 10 years in prison for an unrelated crime that he finally made a decision: Enough was enough.
During his incarceration, Owen dedicated himself to change. He pursued education in addiction studies, psychology, anger management, and domestic violence counseling. He discovered a newfound passion—helping others who were struggling just like he had.
Today, armed with a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Owen is living proof that redemption is possible. He works for a nonprofit supporting formerly incarcerated individuals and has launched Phoenix Rising Recovery & Counseling, an organization providing online anger management and domestic violence classes to those in need.
His story isn’t just about survival—it’s about rising from the ashes to create something meaningful.
